But, Keurig®’s set-up instructions are still simple, and the process only takes ten minutes. In this article, we will walk you through a Keurig® unboxing and give you easy setup instructions.

Keurig® Brewer Setup Guide

  1. Remove your new brewer from the box, take it out of the plastic bag, and remove the tape securing the various parts.
  2. Plug the unit into a grounded outlet.
  3. Remove the water reservoir (lift straight up).
  4. Install the optional water filter (if you have one, these are usually purchased separately).
  5. Fill the reservoir with fresh, filtered water (not distilled).
  6. Replace the water reservoir and make sure it is sitting flush. 
  7. Press the power button. 
  8. Wait about four minutes for the water to heat. 
  9. Place a large mug on the drip tray.
  10. Lift and lower the brew handle (do not insert a K-Cup® pod).
  11. Push the smallest cup-size brew button to run a water-only cleansing brew cycle. 

Now your new Keurig® is set up properly and you are ready to make a cup of coffee! Get ready, you are only about 60 seconds away from your first sip.

New Keurig® Tastes Like Plastic

Your K-Cup® coffee should taste rich and satisfying from the very first sip. It certainly should not taste like plastic. If it does, don’t panic, it is easy to get rid of a plastic taste in a Keurig® brewer. Here’s the solution!

  1. Empty the water reservoir.
  2. Wash the reservoir with gentle soap and water. Rinse well. 
  3. Fill the reservoir with distilled white vinegar.
  4. Put the water reservoir back on the unit.
  5. Place a large mug on the drip tray.
  6. Lift and lower the brew handle. 
  7. Push the start button to run a water-only brew cycle.
  8. Repeat this process until the reservoir is empty.
  9. Remove the reservoir and wash with soap and water again. Rinse well.
  10. Fill the reservoir with fresh filtered water.
  11. Put the water reservoir back on the unit.
  12. Place a large mug on the drip tray.
  13. Lift and lower the brew handle. 
  14. Push the start button to run a water-only brew cycle.
  15. Repeat this process until the reservoir is empty.
  16. Refill the reservoir with fresh filtered water. 
  17. Brew a K-Cup® pod.
  18. Taste the coffee. 
  19. If you still taste plastic, repeat the process above.
